The UFC was away from Oklahoma City for nine years. Was the juice worth the squeeze for the fans in its return?
UFC Fight Night 281 had five stoppages Saturday at Paycom Center, where the fans delivered a new building gate record at an event that featured two former champions at the top of the lineup. And while former middleweight titleholder Dricus Du Plessis (24-3 MMA, 10-1 UFC) looked outstanding against former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman (21-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC) and had multiple opportunities that appeared close to a finish, he had to settle for a decision.
Two fights earlier, one of the two finishes on the main card couldn’t properly celebrate with a $25,000 stoppage bonus – because Chase Hooper (17-5-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) missed weight ahead of his submission of Mitch Ramirez (8-4 MMA, 0-3 UFC). But among the five finishes, was it the best, despite that?
