USC baseball’s Isaac Cadena, Adrian Lopez entering transfer portal

Recently, USC baseball has seen a number of transfer portal departures. While many of those players did not see the field a ton, over the past week, the Trojans have lost two key pieces of their team.

The first of these particularly notable departures was starting catcher Isaac Cadena. Cadena entered the portal last week, and committed to Clemson not long after. This past season, he hit .294 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.

“Cedena had a season-high four hits with four RBIs against Rutgers on May 3, a game in which he homered twice,” Steve Holley of Clemson Wire wrote. “He had a .425 on base percentage and a .930 OPS in 63 games total and threw out four base runners in 17 attempts while with the Trojans.

“Clemson will be the fourth school in as many years for Cedena, who began his college career at Ohio State before transferring to TCU. Across 147 career games, he has 19 home runs, 30 doubles and a .420 on base percentage.”

Then, on Monday, infielder Adrian Lopez entered the portal. In his second season at USC this spring after starting his college career off at Long Beach State, Lopez posted a .305 batting average while adding 13 home runs and 47 RBIs.

Losing Cadena and Lopez is a major blow for the Trojans. Head coach Andy Stankiewicz will now be forced to look elsewhere to replace their production in the lineup.
