UNM assistant leaves for role at Texas State

New Mexico offensive analyst Kiel McDonald is leaving to coach Texas State’s running backs, head coach Jason Eck confirmed to the Journal on Thursday.
McDonald, 43, will coach the Bobcats’ running backs after joining the Lobos’ staff earlier this season as a volunteer offensive assistant. Prior to UNM, he served as the running backs coach at Southern Cal, Utah and the Los Angeles Chargers.
A former cornerback at Sacramento State and Idaho, McDonald played under Eck for one season with the Vandals in 2006. The latter served as Idaho’s tight ends coach and run game coordinator at the time.
