Over in Turkey, the FIBA U17 World Cup rolls on, and the U.S. finished up group play by just gobsmacking Italy, 131-80, and now moves on to the knockout round.

We don’t know beans about Italy’s team, but we can tell you this: it’s a much more convincing win than the last one over a small Japanese team. Both Italy and France have emerged as solid world powers in basketball, so these are impressive wins.

The U.S. has now put solid beatdowns on France (115-84), Japan (128-66), and now Italy. The average margin of victory has been 48 points.

Duke-bound Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks.

Duke targets: AJ Williams had 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Beckham Black had 7 points and 8 assists.

If you have time to kill this morning, here’s the entire game.

By the way, this is an impressive fact: with the win, the U.S. runs its all-time record in FIBA U17 to 54-0.

Next up: Cameroon.
