Texans could have a great problem on their hands with UDFA CB Collin Wright
Another day, another moment where the Houston Texans might have to rethink the roster to include undrafted rookie cornerback Collin Wright.
Every day since the start of training camp, Wright, a two-year starter at Stanford, has turned heads by making plays. Key players like Derek Stingely Jr. and Kamari Lassiter have been complimentary of the young defender since his arrival.
On Saturday, Wright finally made his first interception of practice after breaking up what felt like over a dozen passes.
Two days later, he once again stepped in front of a pass on a ball thrown by C.J. Stroud and returned it back to give the defense another turnover.

“He’s just always around the ball,” defensive coordinator Matt Burke said Saturday. “Very sharp kid, very intelligent. So kind of on his business in terms of where he needs to be. Not a lot of mental errors. He’s kind of where he’s supposed to be and he’s showing up around the ball.”
Wright was one of the biggest surprises not to be drafted on Day 3 in April. His 6-foot frame looks massive in person, and his physical play against wide receivers in an underwhelming program was well documented during his tenure in Palo Alto.
Over the past two seasons, Wright collected pass breakups and four interceptions. He was also viewed as a reliable tackler in space, only missing on 7.2 percent of plays.

“He finds a way to get his hands on the ball in some type of fashion,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said last week. “Whether he’s picking the ball, whether he’s playing sticky coverage and attacking the ball, getting PBUs, he’s done a really great job.”
At almost every practice, Wright has made himself known. More often than not, he’s breaking up passes and throwing his body at receivers, but in team drills, 7-on-7 or even speical teams, there’s a play where No. 37 is making life brutal for the offense.
And the right people are taking notice.
“He’s a really good player. He comes in every day,” Lassiter said. “He’s really quiet, so you don’t really hear about him a lot. He’s out there making plays day in, day out. Since the spring, he’s made a lot of plays.”
Wright will make his first appearance in a Texans uniform this Thursday when the Texans host the Los Angeles Chargers.
