Simone Biles Returns to Texas Home After ‘Almost Dying’ from Mystery Health Scare While Husband Jonathan Owens Was Training In Indianapolis

Gymnast Simone Biles has revealed that she “almost” died from an undisclosed medical emergency that she suffered while her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, was away from their Texas home training with the Indianapolis Colts.
Biles, 29, opened up about the mysterious health scare in a post on her Instagram Stories, where she posted an image of her wrist with several hospital bands on it, while writing: “Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.
“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”
The three-time Olympian went on to explain that she has been “in bed resting,” adding that she will “explain sooner or later” the events that led up to her apparent hospitalization, before paying tribute to her “close circle,” who have supported her through this difficult time.
“[Shout out] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited and/or sent flowers,” she wrote. “Love ya’ll.”
Biles, who moved into a custom-built mansion on a lakefront parcel in Spring, TX, with her husband earlier this year, then shared some images of just a few of the incredible flowers she had been sent—before posting another photo of herself laying in bed with two of her dogs, alongside a screenshot from her Oura Ring’s heart rate monitor.
The Oura Ring data showed that Biles had a heart rate of 126 bpm, which is considered high if someone is resting. It indicated that the sporting superstar’s heart rate had been fluctuating significantly throughout the night and into the morning.
“I’ll be here,” she wrote by way of an explanation.
It’s unclear exactly when Biles suffered her medical issue; images show that she and Owens traveled to his hometown of St. Louis, MO, to attend a Cardinals game on May 29, after the NFL star hosted a youth training camp in the local Missouri neighborhood.
On June 3, she then shared a video of herself and a friend spending the evening together at her Spring, TX, home.
Biles and her pal—LSU gymnast Zoe Miller—went head-to-head in a flipping contest on the custom in-ground trampoline the property.
The clip showed the two women taking turns performing different aerial moves—from back fulls to front pikes—and trying to land the skills without moving their feet.
Though drastically different to their normal training locations, Biles and Owens’ custom lakefront mansion provided a beautiful backdrop for the “summer night” session, with the sun seen setting behind the water as the duo completed their competition.
Three-time Olympian Biles, who was sporting a red bikini and a matching sarong, looked in full health as she managed to pull off a stuck landing on many of the moves, proving that, while she may no longer be in fulltime training, she has more than maintained the skills needed to fight for a spot on Team USA’s 2028 Olympic squad.
The video earned plenty of attention from several high-profile names in the gymnastics world, including Biles’ former teammate, Aly Raisman, who commented: “I wanna play! Could watch this all day! So fun.”
Canadian national team member Ellie Black also chimed in, writing: “Sticking on a trampoline ain’t easy people.”
Even the official Olympics account commented on the clip, writing: “Can we join next time?”
Interestingly, the video was shared just a few days after the seven-time Olympic gold medalist admitted that she has yet to make up her mind about whether or not she will try and compete in the upcoming Games in Los Angeles, explaining during an interview with Spanish outlet El Pais that she is “at about 50%” in her decision making process.
“I’d say we’re still at about 50 per cent. Although I’ll also take this opportunity to say one thing: I feel we should know how to admire athletes while they are active and competing,” Biles said.
“I’ve already been to three Olympic Games, and I feel fulfilled. It’s crazy to see how people always want more and more from you. In the end, the decision will always be mine.”
The athlete confirmed that she has not taken part in any elite-level gymnastics training since the 2024 Paris Games, where she won three gold medals, noting that she has switched her focus to other activities, like yoga and pilates—a workout that she does alongside her NFL player husband.
“I think it’s just so I can say I’m doing a little movement, because I actually hate exercise. I feel that after doing it for so long, I deserve a break. And I’m giving myself that privilege,” she said.
“That said, my husband takes me to Pilates, and honestly it’s not fun at all. It’s very hard, pure pain and effort. But he loves it. And I do it because I love sharing it with him.”
In addition to her new workout regimen, many other things have changed in Biles’ life since she last competed at an elite level—not least her living situation.
The gymnast spent much of 2025 shuttling back and forth between her home in Texas—which was undergoing construction throughout a bulk of the year—and a rented property in Illinois, where her husband was living while playing for the Chicago Bears.
However, the duo officially relocated from their Windy City abode in February of this year, following the end of the 2025 NFL season, when Owens’ contract with the Bears came to an end, allowing them an opportunity to finally move into their custom mansion in Spring, which was competed in November.
It was later revealed that they will have just a few short months of time to settle into their new dwelling—after Owens signed a new contract with theColts, will require him to relocate yet again before the start of the next season.
