Shane van Gisbergen wins NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma in June 2026

The NASCAR Cup Series competed at Sonoma Raceway, and it was a thrilling event. Ty Gibbs won both stages; however, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver wasn’t able to enter victory lane. Instead, it was a Trackhouse Racing driver who barely snuck out a win in Wine Country.

Shane van Gisbergen and the No. 97 team for Trakchouse Racing won Sunday afternoon’s race at Sonoma, earning their second victory of the 2026 Cup Series season. Van Gisbergen was forced to hold off hard-charging Chase Briscoe, as the No. 97 car fell off over the course of the final run.

This was a much-needed victory for the Trackhouse Racing driver, who failed to finish in San Diego due to a wreck caused by Austin Hill. Now, van Gisbergen sits 14th in the point standings. With no road courses left in 2026, van Gisbergen must find a way to execute on oval tracks moving forward.
