Twelve Athens-area high school cross country teams qualified for the state finals on Saturday, Nov. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 7.
Races will be held at Carrollton High School, located at 201 Trojan Drive. Friday’s slate will feature Classes 4A, 5A and Private (2A-4A). Saturday’s slate will feature Classes 6A, 2A, 1A, 7A and 3A, in that order. Race starts will be in 45-minute increments.
All-day passes are for sale through GoFan, priced $13.60 apiece.
No pets are allowed at the course.
Oconee County boys have won four Class 3A state titles in a row, dating back to 2022, but have five titles in this century, with the earliest in 2001.
East Jackson boys won a Class 2A title most recently in 2024, but also Class 3A in 2016. Athens Academy boys won a Class 2A title most recently in 2022, but also Class A-Private in 2012. Commerce boys captured back-to-back Class A-Public titles in 2019-2020, while Oglethorpe County boys won Class 2A in 2019.
Athens Academy was the last local girls team to win a GHSA title, with their capture of Class A in 2002.
