Scotland goalkeeper Gunn signs for San Jose Earthquakes

Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn has signed for Major League Soccer title hopefuls San Jose Earthquakes after being released by Nottingham Forest.
The 30-year-old, who has 25 caps for his country, has agreed a contract until the end of the 2030 MLS season.
Bruce Arena’s side currently sit second in the Western Conference 15 games into the season, only behind Vancouver Whitecaps on goal difference but having played one game more.
They also sit third in the overall table and Gunn has targeted a title challenge.
“It feels incredible to join the Earthquakes,” he told the club website. “Coming off the World Cup, which was an unbelievable experience, I’m just really excited and grateful for the opportunity to come to San Jose and show the best version of myself.
“We’re in a really good position for the play-offs, so hopefully we can focus on that with the right mentality.”

Gunn played all three of Scotland’s group games at the World Cup in the United States, starting with a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Haiti before a 1-0 loss to Morocco and a 3-0 defeat by Brazil.
Arena was pleased to have signed “a quality goalkeeper” with Premier League and World Cup experience.
“We’re looking forward to integrating him into the club for the second half of the season,” he said.
The Earthquakes return to MLS action on Wednesday, 22 July when they host Orlando City.
Gunn began his career with Manchester City before two spells with Norwich City and also played for Southampton and Stoke City.
He joined Forest in August after leaving Norwich but made only one substitute appearance for the Premier League side.
With San Jose, Gunn will compete for a starting place with 32-year-old Brazilian Daniel and 34-year-old American Earl William Edwards Jr.
