Player grades: Johni Broome leads summer Sixers past Pacers in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The Philadelphia 76ers continued the summer league on Saturday when they took on the Indiana Pacers in Vegas. The contest gave the Sixers another opportunity to see their younger pieces as they continue throughout the summer in an effort to prepare for what’s to come in the 2026-27 season.
The Sixers were able to see second-year big man Johni Broome break out as he finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Sixers to a 100-93 overtime win over the Pacers. Broome was terrific in the paint and was able to give Philadelphia a big offensive boost in an effort to get the job done in the summer.
Rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. added 24 points, three rebounds, and six assists while Matt Rogers poured in 17 points off the bench. Dante Maddox Jr. added 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists and Saint Thomas had eight points and seven rebounds.
Here are the player grades following the win:
Labaron Philon Jr.: A
The rookie’s game is so, so smooth. There were quite a few moments when he was able to get into the paint off the dribble and easily got to his spot against Indiana’s guards. He rushed a few of his shots and wasn’t able to find a rhythm with his 3-point shot, but Philon turned in another strong effort and found a way to be impactful. The signs are there for him to be a rotation piece. He’s a gamer in every sense of the word, which is a big help for this team in the future. Philadelphia will look to continue to develop him and get him these reps in order to prepare for his maiden season. The Sixers have to love the aggression Philon played with in this one.
Johni Broome: A
The Sixers are looking for Broome to be aggressive on the offensive end with both his 3-point shot and his work in the paint. He did both in this one as he was aggressive with the open 3-point looks he received within the offense while also being a presence in the paint. He was terrific in the third quarter to give the Sixers some consistent offensive production and expand the lead a bit against this pesky Pacers team. There were some bunnies that he missed, but Broome put in an overall very good performance, and he did convert a big one in the extra session off an offensive rebound.
Matt Rogers: B-plus
It was Rogers’ turn to make an impact off Philadelphia’s bench unit in this one. The 2025 Patriot League Tournament MVP at American University had 11 points in the opening quarter just off movement without the ball. He was able to get himself a couple of layups just by cutting into the paint and was able to finish at the basket while also knocking down some tough jumpers. He cooled down after the hot start, though.
Dante Maddox Jr.: B-plus
Maddox has a smooth offensive game. There were a number of times when he was able to get to his spots and show off his complete game. He did a good job of giving Philadelphia a boost on both ends in this one and it’s reasonable to think he could get an opportunity at some point. There were a few moments where he looked like he was forcing things offensively, but Maddox has something to lean on.
Saint Thomas: B
Thomas played with a ton of energy in this one and that is going to be a big help in his quest to find an NBA opportunity. Teams love having players with high motors and a skillset that will can translate. He was very good defensively in this one as he forced the Pacers into some tough looks while also helping on the glass.
