For at least the fourth-year in a row, the Philadelphia Phillies are heading towards the MLB trade deadline with a clear need for a right-handed hitting outfielder.
Fortunately, Brandon Marsh is thriving this season in a breakout year and is an All-Star caliber player who leaves only center field and right field as question marks. The Phillies need an outfielder, and Los Angeles Angels‘ Mike Trout is someone fans will be clamoring for once again.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea that would satisfy Phillies fans’ wishes, landing Trout in a blockbuster trade that would send two players to Los Angeles in the dream deal fans have been waiting for.
Phillies’ trade idea lands Mike Trout for two players
“The Trade: Los Angeles Angeles send CF Mike Trout to the Philadelphia Phillies for RHP Gage Wood and CF Justin Crawford,” Miller writes.
This is the move that Phillies fans have been hoping to see for the last half-decade or so. Trout is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and has ties to South Jersey.
It would be a pseudo homecoming for Trout if he were traded to the Phillies, and this idea presented by Miller wouldn’t be a bad one for the Phillies.
Crawford has shown some promise at times during his rookie season, but he’s someone well worth trading to acquire Trout. Wood is a very fun pitching prospect, and for the Angels, a club that needs pitching help desperately, Wood would be a great pickup.
Dave Dombrowski isn’t a stranger when it comes to massive blockbuster trades, and adding Trout in such a massive move would be par for the course for Dombrowski when it comes to filling a hole on his roster.

They parted with two prospects last season for Jhoan Duran, and that’s worked wonders. Why not do the same a year later for Trout if they can?
The future Hall of Famer has full control over any trade thanks to a full no-trade clause. So, even if the Phillies somehow convince Arte Moreno to accept a Trout trade, the Phillies would need to convince Trout to accept the deal as well.
If they can convince Trout and Moreno to accept a deal, then Miller’s trade idea would be the dream outcome for Phillies fans who’ve been waiting to see Trout come home to Philadelphia and make a push for the World Series.
He’d be exactly what this team needs, a right-handed outfielder who could slot into the top of the lineup with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. While this trade idea from Miller might not be likely to happen, it would be the dream outcome this summer.
