Patriots select QB Jayden Daniels at No. 3 overall in 2024 NFL redraft

The 2024 NFL Draft allowed the New England Patriots to select Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick, which turned out to be a franchise-altering decision, but his draft slot may have been different in retrospect, which creates an opportunity to speculate how things may have been different for the Mike Vrabel-led team.
According to CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles in his 2024 NFL redraft, the Patriots go with Jayden Daniels at No. 3 overall.
”If this article had come at this time out last year, Daniels would likely be No. 1,” Pereles said. “Instead, he falls all the way to No. 3! (Please note extreme sarcasm here; all three of these guys are great.) Daniels’ electrifying rookie season can’t be forgotten, but his second-year struggles — with injuries, a fall off in accuracy and less-than-ideal surroundings — can’t be completely overlooked, either.”
Daniels was selected behind Maye, who went No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears, and Caleb Williams, who went No. 2 overall to the Washington Commanders.
The 25-year-old Daniels has already found success in his young career, as he led the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie in the 2024 season after throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns that year.
The Patriots reached the Super Bowl last season behind the strong play of the AP MVP runner-up, Maye, but Daniels is another elite young quarterback who is capable of leading a team deep into the playoffs and approximating the value that Maye currently brings to the team.
