The Green Bay Packers made a couple of changes to their offensive and defensive lineups for Week 3, as the team is desperately trying to find their first win in regulation since Week 14 last year against the Chicago Bears. The loss to the Atlanta Falcons was gross, and I’m hoping to flush it from my brain as quickly as possible. Here are the snap counts this week, so we can get it out of the way.

Quarterback

  • 63 snaps: Jordan Love
  • 0: Tyrod Taylor

Running Back

  • 26: Chris Brooks
  • 22: Kaleb Johnson
  • 15: MarShawn Lloyd

MarShawn Lloyd is officially the RB3 on the team. Last week, Lloyd split snaps perfectly (on non-penalties) with Kaleb Johnson, who didn’t play a single snap of offense in Week 1 for the Packers. Now, Lloyd is backing up Johnson as a ball-carrier, while Chris Brooks is still receiving the most snaps of any back in Green Bay. On the season, Brooks has 85 snaps of offense to Lloyd’s 59 and Johnson’s 36, but Johnson is making up ground on Lloyd.

Receiver

  • 51: Matthew Golden
  • 51: Christian Watson
  • 32: Skyy Moore
  • 21: Bo Melton
  • 20: J. Michael Sturdivant

For the most part, Jayden Reed — who is likely to go on the injured reserve for a neck/back injury — was replaced by Skyy Moore, as expected. Moore played the backup slot role for the Packers all summer and before Reed’s injury. Bo Melton and J. Michael Sturdivant both saw increased snaps from last week (when they played eight snaps combined), as Green Bay needed to rotate in fresh route-runners for an offense that dropped back nearly 60 times tonight.

Tight End

  • 49: Tucker Kraft
  • 20: Jonnu Smith
  • 7: Mark Redman
  • 1: Josh Whyle

Josh Whyle has played one snap the last two weeks, as 11 of his 12 snaps this season came in Week 1. There were a lot more three-receiver looks for the Packers in Week 3 than in Weeks 1 and 2, despite Jayden Reed’s injury, because of the game flow. While Green Bay was only down three points at the half, they went into point-chasing mode quickly, leading to the team having little to no use for blocking tight end Mark Redman.

Offensive Line

  • 63: Sean Rhyan
  • 63: Jordan Morgan
  • 63: Anthony Belton
  • 63: Jager Burton
  • 56: Jacob Monk
  • 7: Donovan Jennings
  • 0: John Williams
  • 0: Travis Glover

Jager Burton made his first career NFL start in Week 3, as the rookie replaced both left guard Aaron Banks (missed the game with an injury) and Donovan Jennings (apparently benched, despite the staff stating that they wanted continuity on the offensive line). Jennings did eventually come into the game, though, as right guard Jacob Monk left action with an undisclosed injury at the two-minute warning.

Defensive Line

  • 40: Karl Brooks
  • 32 Javon Hargrave
  • 31: Devonte Wyatt
  • 27: Chris McClellan
  • 26: Jonathan Ford

Edge Defender

  • 46: Lukas Van Ness
  • 36: Dani Dennis-Sutton
  • 26: Barryn Sorrell
  • 23: Brenton Cox Jr.

Rookie fourth-round pick Dani Dennis-Sutton has been the team’s fourth edge defender in the pecking order this season, but he leapfrogged both Barryn Sorrell and Brenton Cox Jr. in Week 3. It will be interesting to monitor if that will continue moving forward, or if this was just a one-off.

Off-Ball Linebacker

  • 66: Zaire Franklin
  • 51: Edgerrin Cooper
  • 15: Isaiah McDuffie
  • 1: Ty’Ron Hopper
  • 0: Nick Niemann

Will linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was knocked out of the game with a head injury, was evaluated for a concussion and left for the locker room during the game. He did not return and was replaced by special teams captain Isaiah McDuffie.

Cornerback

  • 65: Keisean Nixon
  • 65: Brandon Cisse
  • 0: Carrington Valentine
  • 0: Benjamin St-Juste
  • 0: Kamal Hadden

Safety

  • 66: Evan Williams
  • 66: Xavier McKinney
  • 44: Javon Bullard
  • 0: Kitan Oladapo

The Packers mostly played nickel defense looks tonight, as you can see from Javon Bullard’s two-thirds usage. The team even played nickel on a crucial third-and-short look late in the game, when the Falcons threw three tight ends on the field. Atlanta rushed for a first down, which basically ended Green Bay’s chances of coming out of the game with a win.
