Official: Fabian Reese signs for Wolfsburg

After weeks of speculation, Wolfsburg officially announced the arrival of Fabian Reese on Tuesday afternoon. The 28-year-old joins the Lower Saxony club for a reported fee in the region of €8–9 million and has signed a contract until 2030. Reese will wear the number 11 shirt for his new club.
Reese established himself as a fan favourite during his time at Hertha BSC and was one of the standout performers in the 2. Bundesliga last season. The winger registered an impressive 23 goal contributions, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists, although his efforts were not enough to propel the Berlin club into the promotion race.
“Fabian has been one of the strongest players in the 2. Bundesliga in recent years. He is an absolute key player and brings not only strong attacking qualities but also an exceptional level of commitment, leadership and mentality. We are very much looking forward to having him with us,” said Wolfsburg sporting director Primin Schwegler.
Reese also explained the reasoning behind his decision to leave Hertha and make the move to Wolfsburg.
“The decision to make the move wasn’t exactly easy for me, which is understandable. But it was a very conscious decision and one that makes me very happy. I feel that the way VfL fought to sign me is a great sign of appreciation. The highly professional environment, as well as the values represented by the club, Volkswagen and the people around it, were decisive factors for me. From the very beginning, I had the feeling that this was the right step for me.”
Reese becomes Wolfsburg’s third signing of the summer transfer window. Following their relegation from the Bundesliga, the Wolves have shown no intention of standing still, with the club making their ambition of securing an immediate return to the top flight abundantly clear.
