The New York Yankees selected Florida outfielder Blake Cyr with the 548th overall pick in the 18th round of the 2026 MLB draft.
Teams are allotted $150,000 that doesn’t work against the signing bonus pool for each pick in the back half of the draft. Because Cyr is a senior, he doesn’t have much leverage to negotiate and could sign for that amount. He is the 237th Gator drafted all-time, the 122nd draft selection under Kevin O’Sullivan. With Cyr’s selection, Florida has produced six or more draft picks in three of the last four seasons and in 14 of 18 drafts since 2009.
Cyr spent the last two years in Gainesville after transferring from the University of Miami. His junior season was a bit of a down year, slashing .254/.358/.429 (.788 OPS) with nine home runs and 34 RBI. Losing his father affected him a lot on the diamond that season, but Cyr used the tragedy as a motivator in 2026. He thanked Kevin O’Sullivan and his teammates several times this season for getting him through the loss and was one of the most productive bats in Florida’s lineup this season.
Cyr slashed .316/.398/.591 (.988 OPS) with 14 home runs and 58 RBI over 255 plate appearances as a senior. His strikeout rate dipped below 20% for the first time in his career it was his best power-hitting season since breaking out as a freshman with the Hurricanes. He earned a 2026 ABCA/Rawlings Second Team Southeast All-Region nod as a result.
Prior to playing at Florida, Cyr batted .298/.418/.593 as a Hurricane with 34 homers, 15 doubles and 84 RBI over 295 at-bats in 85 games with Miami. He was a consensus 2023 Freshman All-American and made the All-ACC Freshman Team. His sophomore season was cut short due to a thumb injury.
Initially a second baseman, Cyr began transitioning to the outfield before the injury. At Florida, he was the everyday left fielder for most of two seasons.
