NBA fans divided over LeBron James-Lakers negotiation rumors

LeBron James will likely return for his 24th NBA season. However, it’s unclear which team he’ll play for. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Tuesday that the four-time champion is discussing a potential extension with the Los Angeles Lakers

James has been with the team since 2018. While rumors suggest he might join another franchise this offseason, the Lakers are considered the favorites to land his services.

NBA Central posted Windhorst’s update on X, and NBA fans gave it mixed reactions.

“Hopefully to negotiate himself out the city,” one user said.

“Here come the haters altho he carried Lakers while Luka sat and Reeves & bench played terrible. Reboot of supporting actors is needed; Kleber & Larva out, need a dominate Center and an infusion of young hungry players who can handle harsh LA criticism & keep up with Spurs speed,” a reaction read.

“If they resign Lebron, they have zero hope of winning a championship next season,” one fan wrote.

“nahh lakers gotta move on from him already. first round playoff exit and only plays 40 games a season for the past 5+ years. he’s doing nothing there,” posted another.

“Please for the love of hoop be a team friendly deal!!!” a comment read.

“Lakers will pay him the minimum, while Nike will pay the rest of his salary. He don’t want to leave living in LA and will retire a LAL,” another fan commented.

LeBron James’ 2025-26 season

James played in 60 regular-season games for Los Angeles last season. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals. The 22-time All-Star stepped up in the playoffs, leading his team to the second round.

He carried a heavier load with Luka Doncic missing the entire postseason. However, James’ efforts fell short as the Oklahoma City Thunder swept the Lakers. The 41-year-old also saw his historic 21-consecutive-season All-NBA streak end.
