Mike Vrabel confirms $15 million free agent addition done for season

Julian Hill will not see the field for the New England Patriots in 2026.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick,Patriots coach Mike Vrabel revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that Hill suffered an injury in practice at OTAs that will sideline him for all of next season.

“Julian won’t be able to play this season,” coach Vrabel said. “Devastating. Awful. I really enjoy the person and want to have him around here as much as we can … Disappointing because of the impact he’s made in a short amount of time.”

The Patriots signed Hill to a three-year, $15 million deal in free agency. The North Carolina native played for the Miami Dolphins for all three seasons of his career from 2023-25 before joining New England in free agency.

Hill has recorded 288 receiving yards in his career. He was projected to be the Patriots’ leading blocker at tight end for next season. New England placed Hill on injured reserve on Monday following the team’s blockbuster trade for superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown. The Patriots move forward with Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon leading their tight end unit for next season.
