Fort Smith to honor Thunder's Jaylin Williams with street dedication

Fort Smith will honor hometown basketball star Jaylin Williams next month by officially dedicating a street in his name near the high school where his basketball career began.

A street naming ceremony for “Jaylin Williams Court” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9, on North 23rd Street adjacent to Northside High School. The public is invited to attend.

The ceremony follows the Fort Smith Board of Directors’ approval earlier this year of the honorary street designation in recognition of Williams’ accomplishments in basketball and his continued ties to the community.

Jaylin Williams celebrates the 2025 NBA Championship with a hometown parade in late July 2025. Fort Smith will dedicate "Jaylin Williams Court" on July 9, honoring the Northside graduate, Arkansas Razorback, and Oklahoma City Thunder player for his achievements.

City officials said the event will celebrate Williams’ achievements both on and off the court, highlighting the pride he has brought to Fort Smith as one of the city’s most successful athletes. Community leaders, family members, fans and city officials are expected to attend.

Williams, a Northside High School graduate, went on to play college basketball at the University of Arkansas before being selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Since joining the Thunder, Williams has become known for his versatile play, leadership and community involvement while helping establish Oklahoma City as one of the NBA’s top young teams.
