Liverpool have completed their first signing of the Andoni Iraola era.

The Spaniard was appointed head coach following the dismissal of Arne Slot – and has set to work immediately.

The 43-year-old personally intervened in the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna – with the Basque tactico believing the Spain international has got all the attributes to succeed at Anfield.

Munoz, 22, is with the Spanish national team at the FIFA World Cup although he is currently experiencing some injury trouble.

Liverpool pay €40m for Victor Munoz

The ex-Real Madrid youth will be nonetheless raring to go for preseason with his new club – after Liverpool beat Newcastle to the punch for the €40m talent.

Osasuna signed Munoz from Madrid back in summer 2025 on terms highly favourable to the Spanish capital giants. The LaLiga club paid a low upfront cost – €5m for 50 percent of Munoz’s rights with another €1m due in potential add-ons.

Madrid also inserted a buyback option in the deal – which they declined to use ahead of Munoz’s move to Liverpool.

Real Madrid bank €25.5m in Munoz deal

And now Jose Mourinho’s side are set to cash in big time on Munoz – despite him only appearing TWICE in the first team. Liverpool paid Osasuna’s €40m clause that was inserted in Munoz’s contract – with €20m of that already due to be paid to Madrid.

It’s been reported in Defensa Central that Munoz triggered a minimum appearance clause during his one season with Osasuna – adding another €500k to the coffers.

Add in the €5m that Madrid received for his sale last summer and it all adds up to €25.5m paid to the 15-time European champions for their former La Fabrica product.
