Konrad Laimer won’t confirm new contract at Bayern Munich, but he might as well have

When one is at the World Cup, one wants to be focused exclusively on said tournament. It is, after all, the biggest and most prestigious tournament in all of football.

Still, the footballing business world never truly stops and it is because of this that Austria’s Konrad Laimer was fielded a question about his status at Bayern Munich. His contract expires in 2027 and his management have been in serious talks with Bayern about extending it for many months now. There has been a recent breakthrough, though. One big enough that Uli Hoeneß believes the extension to already be done.

So it it true? “It’s not official yet,” Laimer was careful to say video distribution channel Servus TV News (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m focused on the here and now, and hoping we’ll stay for a very long time here in the US. But it’s definitely on a very good path. It’s a good fit.”

Does that mean the World Cup debutant feels appreciated at Bayern? “Yes, very much,” Laimer confirmed.

In this day and age, that is as close as professionals can get to saying the deal is done before it is made official. Bayern fans can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing the club will retain the Alpine Zidane.
