The New York Knicks have defeated the San Antonion Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals 105-95. This win takes the immediate home court advantage away heading into Game 2. The Knicks win was not without concern. In the first half, All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson had to be escorted to the locker room after an injury scare. However, ABC’s Lisa Salter’s reported Brunson should be “good to go” prior to his first half return.

Brunson, who started the game 1-7, finished with 30 points on 12-31 shooting. The Knicks got double-digit scoring from three additional players (Towns, Anunoby, Shamet). While the Spurs got a typical result from Victor Wembanyama when they win, 26 points and 12 rebounds, they simply could not stop the Knicks’ ability to score in bunches.

This game was highly competitive. Several lead changes. Both teams possessing leads over ten points. Neither team leading the game more than 60% of the time. The important part for the Knicks was that they came out aggressive, leading for most of the first quarter. Then again, getting an maintaining a lead in the final two minutes.

The Knicks won every shooting stat. They also won assists, steals, tied blocks, had less turnovers and more points in the paint. The only categories the Spurs won tonight were rebounds and points off turnovers. The Spurs will need to re-evaluate and make adjustments for Game 2.

Game 2 will take place on Friday June 5 in San Antonio. That game will tip-off at 8:30p.m. EST and broadcast on ABC.
