Kentucky target Marcus Spears Jr. commits to Texas and reclassifies into 2026

Marcus Spears Jr., one of Kentucky Basketball’s top recruiting targets, is now off the board after committing to the Texas Longhorns on Thursday. Spears announced the news on his Instagram page.
A 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward from Dallas, Spears is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class by 247 Sports. He held offers from Kentucky, Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, and many others. He is a cousin of 2027 Kentucky commit Ryan Hampton but is opting to stay home for college.
Because he is 17 years old, Spears will have to spend two seasons in college before being eligible for the 2028 NBA Draft.
