The Colorado Rockies wear pinstripes, too.

That’s a random takeaway, but the more the New York Yankees think about Hunter Goodman, the more they’ll probably notice that he’d look right at home in a Yanks uniform, too.

The Rockies’ catcher is a trade candidate, although he’s not on an expiring contract, which makes things trickier for any team wanting to acquire him.

The Yankees really need a better-hitting catcher, though, ideally one that swings from the right side. Goodman would fit the bill and then some.

On Sunday, he blasted three home runs, making it even more obvious that the Yankees need to try and make this happen.

“Why would the Rockies trade their 26-year-old All-Star catcher with three years of club control remaining? In all likelihood, they won’t,” MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote in a new article on Monday. “But that doesn’t mean some teams won’t try to pry Goodman away from Colorado, and given the state of the Rockies’ rebuild under new president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta, it’s impossible to rule anything out. The Yankees are in need of catching help; what if New York overwhelmed Colorado with an offer? Goodman will probably still be wearing a Rockies uniform after the Trade Deadline passes, but with 27 home runs in the first half — only four shy of his career-high, set last season — the catcher’s trade value may never be higher, especially with a club like the Yankees looming as a potential suitor. Just something to keep an eye on in the next two weeks.”

The reality that the Rockies have to face is that they aren’t going to win this year, but also probably not in the next couple years, either.

Goodman can be the face of a struggling team, or he can bring back key prospects to hopefully jumpstart the rebuild.

The Yankees aren’t in position to be too greedy in who they keep. They probably wouldn’t trade George Lombard or Carlos LaGrange, but it seems everyone else would be on the table.

New York should certainly see what it can do here. Getting Goodman, who continues to be red hot, would be worth it no matter the cost.
