How Warriors plan to reunite LeBron James, Anthony Davis

The Golden State Warriors reportedly have big goals for this NBA offseason and they include LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor, the Warriors are eyeing the former Los Angeles Lakers teammates this offseason.

“The Warriors are attempting to trade for Wizards big Anthony Davis and then sign Lakers free-agent forward LeBron James, according to multiple league sources,” O’Connor wrote.

O’Connor notes that in order for the Warriors to acquire Davis from the Washington Wizards, they would have to send Jimmy Butler’s $57 million contract back, along with draft capital.

Golden State sports a pair of future first-round selections and can pull off four first-round swaps to help get the deal done.

The idea, O’Connor adds, is that acquiring Davis would help bring LeBron to the Warriors, as would the allure of playing with both Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

Things are very murky between LeBron James and the Lakers right now.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Lakers have not made a contract offer to LeBron, which suggests he could play elsewhere in 2026.

“There was a check-in call made, to my understanding, early in free agency once teams were able to start negotiating with their own free agents after the end of the NBA Finals,” Shams stated. “Since then though there hasn’t been much communication, from my understanding, between the Lakers and LeBron James’ side. And certainly not an offer yet. They’re trying to see what can they do with his $50 million of space, potentially, and then where does that leave LeBron?”

We know James will be looking to join a contender if he leaves the Lakers and the Warriors would be that with him and Davis in the fold.

Anthony Davis’ future in Washington

As much as the Warriors might want Anthony Davis, there’s a chance the Wizards won’t make him available.

Washington inked Trae Young to a massive contract extension recently and general manager Will Dawkins made it clear the goal is to hang on to the star big man.

“He wants to be here. We want him here,” Dawkins said of Davis. “We’ll have that conversation in the middle of August when we can officially have that.”

While it might be true Davis wants to remain in Washington, reuniting with LeBron and playing with Curry and Green might change his mind.

Can an aging Warriors super team succeed?

While the idea of LeBron, Curry, Green and Davis playing together is fun to think about, there is no doubt this grouping doesn’t have quite the same aura as it would’ve had a handful of years ago.

After all, Davis is the youngest (and most injury-prone) of the group and he’s 33 years old, and Green (36), Curry (38) and James (41) are all north of 36.

However, all four players are still playing at a pretty high level, so Golden State could no doubt be a top-five team in the Western Conference.

Whether or not the aging superstars would have enough gas in the tank in June to secure an NBA title remains to be seen, though.
