How Travis Hunter being a two-way player impacts Jaguars' salary cap

How much 2026 salary cap space do the Jacksonville Jaguars have devoted to the cornerback position?

For this season, the league-wide salary cap was set at $301.2 million, and the Jaguars have $17.819 million invested in the cornerback position, according to Over the Cap.

Compared to the rest of the league, the Jaguars rank 27th in salary cap spending at this position, which accounts for 5.9% of Jacksonville’s allotted salary cap space.

It’s important to note that Over the Cap has Travis Hunter classified as a wide receiver, so his cap hit of $10.6 million is not included in the figure above. Beyond Hunter’s ability to play two positions, an added benefit of having his two-way skill set on the roster is that it provides more flexibility to James Gladstone from cap and roster-building perspectives.

Looking at it through this lens, the Jaguars have a starting cornerback who doesn’t impact this position group’s salary cap spending.

So the largest cornerback cap hit that the Jaguars have belongs to Jourdan Lewis at a modest $6. 599 million. For some context, this ranks 37th among all cornerbacks for the 2026 season.

And while Montaric Brown just signed a new deal, the Jaguars backloaded the contract and used void years to help keep his 2026 cap hit down at only $3.92 million.

Jarrian Jones and Christian Braswell, meanwhile, are still on their rookie deals. Jabbar Muhammad is a second-year UDFA, while Preston Hodge and Devon Marshall are current UDFAs.

Keni-H Lovely and Dane Jackson are on minimum deals.

Of these players, Jones has the largest 2026 cap hit at $1.52 million.
