How Christian Scott injury and trip to IL changes NY Mets rotation

CINCINNATI — The Mets’ patchwork starting rotation is set to lose another piece for a short time.
Christian Scott, who was slated to start either Tuesday or Wednesday, is headed to the injured list with an undisclosed injury, according to a report by Will Sammon of The Athletic.
In his first season back from internal brace surgery that kept him out for the 2025 season, Scott has become one of the pillars of the Mets’ rotation.
He has a 2-0 record with a 3.10 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 40⅔ innings across nine starts.
On the heels of back-to-back victories, the 27-year-old right-hander had a rocky start last time out when he gave up three home runs to the Cardinals and finished with four earned runs allowed on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
Now, the Mets will need to fill another void in their pitching staff as they look to carry some momentum into their six-game road trip, which begins Monday against the Reds in Cincinnati.
The Mets won a series over the Atlanta Braves last weekend in Flushing and enter the week with a 32-39 record and 6-6 mark in the month of June.
What is state of Mets’ rotation without Christian Scott?
Beyond Scott, Freddy Peralta and Nolan McLean, the Mets’ rotation has largely been in disarray.
The unit lost Clay Holmes, who was on an All-Star trajectory, to a fractured right tibia on May 15 against the Yankees.
The final two spots in the rotation have recently been filled with relief openers. Sean Manaea made his first start of the season last Saturday after being resigned to a bullpen role out of spring training. It was an encouraging one as the left-hander held the Braves to two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts across six innings.
David Peterson’s role has been in flux due to his inconsistent performance. He began the season as a starter, shifted to a bulk role and has spent time as a reliever this season. Peterson gave up six earned runs in 3⅔ innings in relief last time out.
Kodai Senga continues to work back from lumbar spine inflammation that has kept him out since April 27. He has made four rehab appearances between three levels of the Mets’ minor league system. The Mets were encouraged when Senga allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk last time out on June 10 for Double-A Binghamton.
Tobias Myers was set to start in a limited role on Monday. He threw 36 pitches in his most recent outing in Triple-A Syracuse.
Jonah Tong, Zach Thornton: Options in minor leagues
The Mets could look deeper to Syracuse to try and plug in their new hole.
Jonah Tong and Zach Thornton are both on the team’s 40-man roster and have pitched in a limited capacity for the Mets this season.
The Mets used Tong in a bulk relief role twice in late May. The 22-year-old right-hander made two appearances, allowing one run (zero earned) on three hits and five walks in 6⅔ combined innings. The right-hander has struggled since being sent back down, though, allowing four earned runs in each of his last three starts in Syracuse. He pitched on Sunday.
Thornton debuted for the Mets back on May 20 against the Nationals, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks in 4⅓ innings. With Syracuse this season, the left-hander is 1-4 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. He last pitched on June 13 but only lasted ⅔ innings as he threw 36 pitches in the opening frame.
