Hamilton fastest in only practice for home British Grand Pirx

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton rolled back the years by going quickest in the only practice session for his home British Grand Prix on Friday.
Hamilton, who has triumphed at Silverstone nine times but not since 2024 with Mercedes, set a top time of 1 minute 29.260 seconds.
Mercedes’ championship leader Kimi Antonelli was second fastest, just 0.213 seconds back ahead of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
There is only one practice in Silverstone this year as it has been chosen for a sprint race. Sprint qualifying follows on Friday before Saturday’s sprint race and normal qualifiying ahead of Sunday’s full race.
Italian teenager Antonelli leads the standings after five wins, 40 points ahead of team-mate George Russell, who won last time out in Austria and at the season opener in Australia. Russell was fourth fastest on Friday.
Seven-times world champion Hamilton, 41, is the only other race winner this season having prevailed in Barcelona for his maiden Ferrari victory.
