Guardians lineup, live score updates tonight vs. Mets

CLEVELAND — The Guardians made moves at the MLB trade deadline in an effort to improve, but whether they actually begin playing better remains to be seen. Their next chance will be Wednesday, Aug. 5, against the New York Mets.

By falling 6-2 in their interleague series opener against the Mets on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Guardians (57-57) lost for the ninth time in 12 games. The silver lining is the Chicago White Sox (59-53) also lost on Aug. 4 and remained just three games ahead of the Guardians in the American League Central Division standings.

Guardians expected to promote highly touted prospect Angel Genao

The Guardians are planning to call up switch-hitting shortstop Angel Genao from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers on Aug. 5, a source confirmed.

Genao is ranked 39th on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list. He is the No. 2-ranked prospect in Cleveland’s farm system, according to MLB Pipeline, trailing only Ralphy Velazquez.

Who do the Guardians play next? Foster Griffin set to debut for Cleveland

The Guardians are slated to host the Mets in the series finale at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Progressive Field. All-Star starting pitcher Foster Griffin, whom the Guardians acquired from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline, is scheduled to pitch against the Mets on Aug. 6 and thereby make his Cleveland debut.

Then the Guardians are scheduled to visit the first-place White Sox from Aug. 7-9 and the Detroit Tigers from Aug. 11-13.
