CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — The first game with a new offense while replacing 38 seniors against one of the top-ranked teams in Class 6A made for a challenging start to Glenwood’s season.
“Feeling comfortable with what we’re doing and putting guys in the right spot throughout it and just kind of figuring out what we were actually going to be good at doing with our personnel, and we figure it out pretty quick,” head coach James Dambacher said.
The Titans have since scored at least 34 points in each of their last four games.
“A lot of guys have stepped up… leaders,” Glenwood offensive lineman Kaleb Edge said. “Everyone’s doing something they didn’t get to do last year, and this year, I think everyone’s doing a lot better… learning new positions and learning to play varsity football.”
Leading that effort is first-year starting quarterback Michael Young.
“Coach Daumbacher’s done great with explaining everything after week one,” Young said. “Week one definitely was a little fast, but then the last four weeks have been smooth.”
Part of the offense’s success has been challenging defenses with tempo.
“It definitely has to stress them a lot, because we go quick,” Young said. “When we go quick, sometimes it can mess the defense up, that’s when we can take advantage.”
And beyond the field, Coach Dambacher, a former United States Marine, hopes to teach his players about life through football.
“Strength, courage, honor, discipline… all that comes from the Marine Corps, so it’s really helped me just to discipline myself and know that I was a high school kid once too, and I needed that structure and discipline in my life when I was their age and didn’t always have it, so just trying to provide that to them,” Dambacher said.

The Titans face the Rockets Friday, September 25 in Chatham, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
