Amid a nightmare season for the San Francisco Giants, Luis Arraez has been awesome.

That earned him a trip to the All-Star Game in Philadelphia, but it has also made him a prime part of trade rumors.

Arraez is on just a one-year contract, making it logical for a team out of the playoff hunt to trade him to a contender.

He’s also playing so well, which raises the odds of him getting moved even higher. The Giants could get a legitimate future asset in return for Arraez.

Arraez spoke with reporters about the trade situation on Monday in Philly, and he made a couple things clear.

For one, he said he doesn’t actually wanted to be traded.

He also expressed that he’d want the team that gets him to use him at second base, not first base or DH.

As beat reporter Susan Slusser writes above, it makes sense that Arraez wouldn’t want to move off second base.

He was previously a poor defender, but every metric has graded him superbly at that position this season. It’s clear he put in the work to improve there.

Combined with his immense talent for making contact, Arraez brings winning skills to a new team.

The trade deadline is the first week of August, so there’ll be just a couple weeks following the All-Star Break for the Giants to pull off a deal.

It certainly seems likely that Arraez will be on the move, but he’s at least made his thoughts clear ahead of time.
