LSU baseball loses talented infielder to the transfer portal

Another LSU baseball player has entered the transfer portal, as infielder Ethan Clauss will explore his options elsewhere. Clauss spent just one year with the Tigers.

Coming out of high school in Las Vegas, Clauss was rated by Perfect Game as the No. 37-ranked shortstop in his class. Clauss didn’t play much as a true freshman, only appearing in 11 games without making a start. Clauss recorded one hit (a triple) and scored two runs.

Clauss is the sixth LSU player to enter the portal, and the third position player, joining infielder Trent Caraway and outfielder Daniel Harden.

Clauss was not a major contributor in 2026, and with LSU signing shortstop Dawson Park, paired with the return of players like Jack Ruckert and John Pearson, Clauss didn’t have a clear path to the field in 2027. He remains talented and he’ll likely receive some power conference attention in the portal.

LSU baseball missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 in 2026. The roster shuffling was expected as Jay Johnson looks to return LSU to the postseason.
