Former Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Hockey Hall of Fame announce their inductions on Monday, and Burke was elected into the builder category.
Burke began his executive career in 1987 with the Vancouver Canucks as director of hockey operations before becoming the GM of the Hartford Whalers. After a brief stint in the NHL, he joined the Vancouver Canucks front office as GM from 1998 to 2004.
The American was quickly hired by the Anaheim Ducks to be their GM and held the role until 2008, when he was hired as President and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was fired in 2013.
Burke took over as President of Hockey Operations for the Calgary Flames from 2013 until 2018. After stepping down in 2018, he took a few years off before the Penguins hired Burke in 2021 as the President of Hockey Operations.
However, Burke’s tenure with the Penguins wasn’t long, as on April 14, 2023, after Pittsburgh missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 seasons, Burke was fired.
Burke won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007.
