Now that Giannis Antetokounmpo is with the Miami Heat, the expectations are high for them. He is now part of a strong frontcourt with Bam Adebayo, which makes them quite possibly the best partnership of its kind in the NBA.

This puts a spotlight on the rest of the team, which is pretty underwhelming when compared to the supporting cast of star duos in the league. The New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder immediately come to mind, and this Heat team has a supporting cast that is far from the league’s top teams.

Danny Green doubts the Miami Heat’s potential success with the new roster

The Eastern Conference is much better than advertised, especially with how the Knicks dominated on their way to a championship. Since they won the title, other teams in the East have made strides with their roster construction. The Philadelphia 76ers look like legitimate threats now, but the same could be said about the Heat.

Unfortunately, they are a bit top-heavy with Adebayo and Antetokounmpo leading the way. They have a decent supporting cast, but they do not have the ceiling that other teams have. The likes of Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell is alright, but they don’t hold a candle to players like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges today.

That is why three-time NBA champion Danny Green is not a big fan of what the Heat are doing. They don’t have the quality in their depth to compete for a championship just yet. Pat Riley and the Heat front office need to nail their offseason moves because if they don’t surround their star duo with good players, they might miss out on a shot at the championship.

“You don’t know why I think the Heat will be trash? Go over their roster. Have they had less than this? No! If Giannis has a calf strain, they will be in the lottery this year. I think both these teams will be in the play-in,” Green said on No Fouls Given with Paul Pierce.

“Outside of that, where’s the rest of the talent? They’re both bad to me. Both of these teams are not good. Giannis was in MIL, and they weren’t good. Just because Giannis is in Miami, they’re not going to be good.”

Green thinks both the Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks will be on the same level. His point about the Bucks might be overblown, but there is a chance that this Heat team does not meet expectations. The roster needs to be addressed because the Heat cannot compete against the top teams with their limited depth.
