Former Kentucky basketball player Kerr Kriisa arrested in Lexington

Former University of Kentucky men’s basketball player Kerr Kriisa faces federal charges in connection with a “multimillion dollar fraud scheme,” according to reports.

Kriisa was arrested July 3 in Lexington by FBI officials and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, local station WKYT-TV reported. He is set to be extradited to West Virginia for a court hearing next week, as the allegations against him stem from his time with the West Virginia University men’s basketball team, according to a report from Kentucky Sports Radio. Kriisa played with the Mountaineers from 2022 to 2023.

Further details on the charges Kriisa faces remain unclear. The Courier Journal has reached out to spokespeople with the FBI’s Louisville office and the Fayette County Detention Center for comment.

Kriisa had been set to play for La Familia in The Basketball Tournament beginning July 18, when the UK alumni team will start a best-of-three series with The Ville at Lexington’s Memorial Coliseum. Kriisa will not play for La Familia during the tournament, the team confirmed July 5 on social media.
