Ex-Chiefs starter labeled the most underrated move for his new team

According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, former Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is their most underrated move this offseason.

“The signing of unrestricted free agent running back Isiah Pacheco. Pacheco is viewed as a replacement for Montgomery, who was traded to Houston, and he’s confident that his violent running style will complement Jahmyr Gibbs’ speed in the backfield,” wrote Woodyard. “He is hopeful that the move to Detroit will also spark a new beginning for a career that has gotten off track.”

The Lions are focused on adding players to reestablish a tough identity after missing the postseason in 2025. Pacheco signed a one-year, $1.81 million fully guaranteed contract with the Lions. He finished second on the Chiefs in rushing last season with 462 yards, averaging just 35 rushing yards per game and 3.9 per carry.

The former 7th-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft became a pleasant surprise with his production and eventually became the team’s starting running back. He rushed for 1,765 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first two seasons, while also catching 57 passes for 374 yards.
