Just over two months after being fired by Premier League giants Chelsea, where he had only taken charge following Enzo Maresca’s exit back in January, Liam Rosenior has landed a new gig.

The 41-year-old ex-Premier League defender for Fulham, Reading, Hull City, and Brighton and Hove Albion has been appointed the new head coach of Ligue 1 side Paris FC.

Rosenior has joined the club on a two-year deal, replacing Antoine Kombouaré, whose exit was also announced on Tuesday.

“Firstly, I’m so happy to be the new coach of Paris FC,” Rosenior said. “I can’t wait to get started with the players and being in the stadium makes me feel so excited for the season to come.

“I’m an English coach. I love football. I want my team to enjoy playing football and to show and express themselves, and play with intensity and enthusiasm. That’s what I’m about, and hopefully I can bring that to this club.”

Rosenior went on to add that he felt Paris FC represented “a fantastic project,” noting that after he met with Antoine Arnault (who represents the Arnault family which owns the club), sporting director Marco Neppe, and general manager Jean-Marc Gallot, “I couldn’t say no.”

He continued, “I’m so happy that it’s been agreed. I can’t wait to get started in the job. Hopefully, I can pay back the faith they’ve put in me in bringing real success to this club.”

Paris FC only returned to the top tier of French soccer in 2025 under Stéphane Gilli, with last season their first in Ligue 1 since 1978/1979, after which they bounced between the second and third divisions.

Kombouaré took charge in February 2026, replacing Gilli, going on to lead the club to an 11th-place finish, three spots behind Rosenior’s former club, RC Strasbourg, which he left after a year and a half in charge to take over at fellow BlueCo-owned side Chelsea. His tenure at Chelsea proved disastrous, leading the Blues to 11 wins, two draws, and 10 defeats, before being replaced on a temporary basis by Callum McFarlane before the club appointed Xabi Alonso this summer.

During Rosenior’s sole full season with Strasbourg, he led the club to a seventh-place finish, marking just the second time they’d finished within the top 10 since 2000.

“Liam Rosenior possesses all the qualities we were looking for,” Neppe said. “He is a modern, demanding coach, renowned for his ability to develop both individual players and the team as a whole.

“Beyond his tactical skills, we were particularly impressed by his management abilities and his capacity to unite a group around a clear vision. I am convinced he has all the qualities to succeed at Paris FC and I wish him every success in this new chapter of his career.”

Rosenior’s first competitive game in charge will take place on August 22 at ES Troyes AC before they head back to the capital to host OGC Nice eight days later.
