Every NFC North team's biggest reason for optimism in 2026

The NFC North may be one of the NFL’s toughest divisions again in 2026. Last season, each team finished with a record above .500. This will obviously make for a camp full of optimism for each team heading into a brand-new season. With elite coaching, excellent quarterback play, and good defense, let’s look at specific reasons these teams think they can compete for a division title this upcoming season.

Chicago Bears – Finally, some stability

Having stability at the game’s most important position breeds optimism and is a breath of fresh air for Bears fans. Capturing the NFC North and reaching the postseason, QB Caleb Williams has tremendous momentum. More importantly, he’ll have head coach Ben Johnson again, whose creativity has already helped unlock Williams’s full potential. Caleb Williams has all the tools to become an elite QB with NFL longevity and consistent winning.

For the first time in years, Bears fans are expecting their franchise QB to take another leap while accelerating his development. The Bears have weapons and are building a foundation for winning division championships for the foreseeable future.

Detroit Lions – The championship window is still wide open

One disappointing season doesn’t erase what the Lions have been building. Head coach Dan Campbell has assembled one of the deepest rosters that this team has ever seen. Injuries and inconsistency derailed the 2025 season, but all the foundational pieces are still within their grasp at literally every position. The culture will remain one of Detroit’s greatest strengths. They have great QB play and, once again, great speed. If healthy, the Lions will be right back to the top of the division with a loaded roster.

Green Bay Packers – Jordan Love gives them a chance every week

Packers QB Jordan Love is perfectly capable of leading one of the NFL’s youngest rosters under head coach Matt LaFleur’s offensive system. The front office continues to draft and develop, and Love has a ton of deep threat talent. Love has great arm strength, decision-making ability, and can push the ball downfield. All of these traits foster optimism every season, and expectations for 2026 are no different. QB stability is hard to find in the NFL, and Green Bay has it figured out.

Minnesota Vikings – Will maximizing the roster be enough?

Elite coaching gives teams a chance to exceed expectations. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell gets the most out of his offensive personnel, regardless of who is under center. Now, they have added Kyler Murray, who will have a chance to revamp his career or derail it while being on a short leash if starting. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores is one of the best to do it. Remaining competitive during transition periods is crucial in the NFC North. Once things get figured out on offense, maximizing the roster on defense will set the tone, and the Vikings will be right back into contention in a very tough division.
