There might not be another team in the NFL more in a rebuild than the Miami Dolphins. After cutting ties with many of their veterans, whether it’s through releases or trades, the Dolphins roster is completely gutted.

This team is building for the future, and they’re willing to sacrifice the short-term on-field production to do so. Plenty of roster moves have been made already, but the Dolphins still could part with some key veterans this offseason.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report proposed one trade idea between the Dolphins and the Houston Texans that could help resolve this problem. This idea would have the Dolphins giving up running back Jaylen Wright in exchange for one draft pick.

Dolphins trade idea sends Jaylen Wright to Texans for late round pick

“Houston Texans: Trade a late 2027 pick for Miami Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright,” Moton proposed. “… Houston can inquire about Wright, who may be expendable on the Miami Dolphins’ rebuilding squad.”

This potential trade idea, where the Dolphins land a late-rounder in the 2027 NFL Draft in exchange for Wright, would make a ton of sense.

While the Texans could use a bit more running back help, the Dolphins have the depth chart to warrant such a trade without any worry of a drop-off in production.

De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon II are the top two running backs in Miami, and Wright is firmly the third option. With Donovan Edwards and Carlos Washington Jr. also on the depth chart, the Dolphins really don’t need to keep Wright.

The 2024 draft pick in the fourth-round won’t be able to bring such a pick back, but the Dolphins could get a sixth or seventh rounder for Wright in a deal.

He has 537 career rushing yards with two touchdowns on 138 attempts, and really hasn’t been involved much. But there is enough potential that a team could have an interest.

After extending Achane to a massive new deal and Gordon’s promising rookie season last year, it makes sense for Miami to trade Wright now while he has some value still.

This trade idea from Moton would make a ton of sense for the Dolphins, and for the Texans, they could get a nice complementary back to David Montgomery.
