The Diamondbacks reinstated catcher James McCann from the injured list on Monday, July 6, making room on the roster by optioning catcher Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno.
McCann has been on the 10-day injured list since May 19 with a strained right quad. He played three games in Triple-A Reno on a rehab assignment, going 0 for 12 with two strikeouts.
McCann was hitting .203/.217/.254 in 59 at-bats at the time of his injury. He was coming off a productive 2025 season in which he hit .260/.324/.431 with five homers in 41 games.
Del Castillo delivered a key, three-run homer in the Diamondbacks’ 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, July 4, but has struggled mightily to get going at the plate this year. He missed all of spring training with a calf injury, then played only sparingly at Triple-A Reno before being summoned to the majors in early April.
In 151 at-bats, Del Castillo hit just .185/.244/.311 with five homers.

At Chase Field: Pfaadt gave up one run in 5⅓ innings against the Giants last week in his first start back in the majors following a stint in Triple-A Reno. … Pfaadt was limited to 66 pitches as he continues to rebuild as a starting pitcher. He likely will be permitted to throw 80 or so pitches against the Padres. … Pfaadt pitched in relief against the Padres on April 25, giving up four runs in three innings. 1B Ty France homered off him that day. … Buehler gave up exactly one run in five consecutive starts in June, but he started off July on a poor note by allowing nine runs in four innings against the Cubs last week. … Buehler has been leaning more heavily on his cutter this season. The pitch has held opposing hitters to a .236 average and .306 slugging. … He has not faced the Diamondbacks yet this season. He logged 3⅔ innings against them in a scoreless relief appearance last season with the Phillies.
