Deposit-Hancock holds on for NYSPHSAA Class C softball title

Deposit-Hancock added to its extensive history of softball success by capturing the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C title with a 4-3 win over Galway on Saturday, June 13 at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park in Binghamton.
Jordan Diemer pitched a 4-hitter for Deposit-Hancock.
The Eagles’ 3-4-5 batters — Kadyn Appley, Ivy Tice, and Haley Begeal — combined to go 6-for-8 with 3 runs and 4 RBIs.
The championship was the fourth for Deposit-Hancock, all coming since 2022. D-H also won titles in 2023 and 2024. Prior to that, Deposit won six state titles on its own (1989, 1990, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019).
Section 4’s Deposit-Hancock finished with a 23-2 record, winning its final 12 games.
Deposit-Hancock opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Tice and led the rest of the way.
The Eagles added two runs in the third inning and another in the fifth after Section 2’s Galway (21-4) cut the lead to 3-1 with a fourth inning run.
Galway scored two in the sixth to get within one. Diemer set Galway down in order in the seventh to close out the title, striking out the final batter.
Diemer, a freshman, struck out 12 and walked 2.
Tice went 2-for-2 with a run and 2 RBIs. Begeal was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and Appley went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and 2 runs.
Galway’s Emma Menge gave up 8 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Tice doubled home Pagan Macumber in the third inning for her second RBI, then scored on Begeal’s single.
Appley smacked a two-out triple in the fifth before scoring Deposit-Hancock’s final run on a single from Begeal.
In Friday’s semifinals at Greenlight Park, Deposit-Hancock downed Section 10’s St. Lawrence, 15-0. Galway beat Section 9’s Pine Plains, 1-0, in 10 innings.
Windham-Ashland-Jewett runner-up in Class D
Section 4’s other team to reach a state final was Windham-Ashland-Jewett, which fell by a 4-1 score to Section 5’s Oakfield-Alabama in Saturday’s Class D championship game.
