Cowboys Legend Tony Romo Breaks Silence on OWI Arrest As Spokesperson Reveals Stance on CBS Situation
Former Dallas Cowboys star and CBS lead NFL color analyst Tony Romo will remain on indefinite leave following his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving. Romo was hit with three new citations stemming from his July arrest.
Tony Romo’s spokesperson reveals stance on CBS future
A spokesperson broke the silence yesterday, addressing Romo’s arrest and what’s next regarding the CBS situation:
“Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved,” he told TMZ. “We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close, and we are communicating with CBS about next steps.”

CBS’s decision comes on the heels of Romo failing a field sobriety test when he was pulled over at around 8 p.m on July 23. The network pulled him after that. He was issued a citation for “refusing to take test for intoxication after arrest,” and court documents said as much afterward.

CBS is also facing a massive PR challenge as Romo’s image comes under scrutiny ahead of the 2026 NFL season. New replacement JJ Watt admitted that the opportunity is incredibly exciting after praising CBS stars Jim Nantz, Tracy Wolfson, and Jim Rikhoff, calling the squad a “legendary team.”
“Haven’t said much because it’s not the circumstances you’d hope it would happen under,” Watt told followers via X when evaluating his new role.
That just adds to the impact the arrest had on Romo’s future, with many in the industry expecting he will never return, despite still being owed $72 million on his initial 10-year, $180 million deal signed in 2020.
