Each offseason, the NFL counts down its top 100 players from the previous season. This leads to some fun conversation and like any list, plenty of debate and controversy.
Recently, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton was revealed as the No. 68 best player in the league in 2025. That’s not offensive players, that’s the best overall players. This news was likely received in many different ways. Plenty of fans were probably mystified, while those within Broncos Country were likely thrilled to see Sutton finally get some respect on a larger level.
Last season, Sutton caught 74 passes, the second-most in any season in his career, for 1,017 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers helped him get selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career. Still, was he really the 68th-best player in the whole league last season? There may even be some Broncos fans who question that.
That will be put into further question when you consider some of the names on the list behind him, such as Lamar Jackson (69), his own teammate Zach Allen (72), Baker Mayfield (77), A.J. Brown (80), Jeffery Simmons (83) and Brock Purdy (85).

However, it’s important to keep in mind that the players vote on these rankings. It’s easy for those sitting on the sidelines who analyze the game to question the voting process, but the fact that these rankings are created by the players who compete against these guys is hard to argue against.
Sutton has been the consummate professional in Denver. He’s overcome tough injuries to become one of the best receivers in Broncos history, but he is rarely recognized on a national scale despite being the team’s No. 1 wide receiver for several seasons now.
Sutton will move into the No. 2 role this season with Jaylen Waddle joining the team, but he may be even more effective in that role as he is much better suited for it at this stage in his career.
There are going to be critics who feel that Sutton is way too high on this list, seeing him as an average possession receiver who is good, but not great. That is how he has been viewed for the majority of his career.

However, Sutton will have no apologies to make for receiving this recognition and the fact that he got it should send him into the upcoming season with his confidence riding a mile high.
