There’s a big difference between shopping a player and being willing to trade them. Teams in any sport typically are willing to trade most players, aside from those they deem untouchable, but that doesn’t mean they’re calling around their respective leagues and fielding offers.
So, with that in mind, what’s the deal with the Celtics and Jaylen Brown?
Numerous reports indicate Boston is dangling Brown in trade talks for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Other reports suggest the Celtics are open to moving Brown in trades for assets other than the Milwaukee Bucks star.
During a “Felger & Mazz” appearance on Wednesday, Brian Robb of MassLive offered new insight into how the Celtics are handling Brown.
“I don’t think they are actively shopping him,” Robb said. “I think they are very much willing to move him for the right guy, whether it’s Giannis or whether it’s the right package of players from Team X.”

Now, it’s worth pointing out that Boston could be using the media quiet speculation about Brown being on the trade block. After all, if Brown winds up not being traded, the Celtics could be left with a disgruntled star who asks for a trade anyway.
Regardless, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And right now, there’s a lot of smoke surrounding Brown and the Celtics.
