In the 20th round of the 2026 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers drafted Carsten Sabathia III.

He’s the son of CC Sabathia, the Hall of Famer who had one hot late-season run with the Brewers during his legendary career that also included Cleveland and the New York Yankees.

The Brewers used their final pick of this year’s draft to pay a little homage to CC.

CC’s full name was Carsten Charles Sabathia, and so his son follows in those footsteps by going by the Carsten portion of the name.

Carston is a 6-foot-4 infielder from the University of Houston who’s listed at 245 pounds. He bats from the right side.

He played his high school ball at Bergen Catholic in New Jersey.

Carsten began his collegiate career at Georgia Tech, but he got into only 19 games in two seasons.

His first season at Houston was 2025, and he played in 27 games. Carsten hit .235 with five doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI.

He played in 37 games in 2026 and raised his average to .28 with three doubles and six homers. Carsten put up a .511 slugging percentage, and an .885 OPS, in his final college season.

Based on his draft round, it’s clear that MLB teams weren’t super high on his long-term potential. Carsten likely is stuck as a DH or first baseman, and his bat isn’t a totally sure thing.

But he’s got quality pedigree and a good mentor, and maybe that’ll help him surprise and become a late-round gem for the Brewers.
