Canelo Alvarez’s comeback fight is finally set and he’s not taking a soft touch on his return. This has been on the calendar since spring. The Ring reported the booking in May and Turki Alalshikh announced September 12 in Riyadh, before Canelo moved it to October 31 on The Ariel Helwani Show citing a family matter that affected camp. Crawford took all five belts at Allegiant Stadium last September. Canelo had elbow surgery afterward and is training in San Diego. It is the first time in years he has not fought in September, and the first time since 2021 that he enters a fight as the challenger.
Mbilli has essentially waited for Canelo to come back — and why wouldn’t he? Despite the loss to Crawford, there’s no other fighter on Earth who can bring Mbilli a bigger payday or more clout if he wins. That said, he has put himself in a position to be rusty having not fought since September 2025, himself.

Mbilli is still five years younger with a lot less wear on his tires, but he has to beware of what could be a motivated Canelo.

The rest of the card hasn’t been set yet, but there figures to be at least one other solid fight added to the card. It wouldn’t be a huge shock to see a title on the line in chief support.
I talked to Canelo ahead of the Crawford fight and he mentioned Marco Verde as the face of Mexican boxing after him. Verde hasn’t fought since June, so it is possible — and maybe even likely — he’ll be on the undercard. He’s 6-0 with 3 KOs, so it’s early. Still, carrying Canelo’s seal of approval makes him noteworthy.
