Caitlin Clark minutes restriction vs Aces comes with beneficial twist for Fever

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has been battling injuries for a second straight season, but the WNBA All-Star is beginning to show signs of progress with her nagging back injury.
Clark will be suiting up for the Fever against the Las Vegas Aces, but will once again be on a minutes restriction. Clark will be limited to 20-25 minutes on Sunday night, but a new wrinkle to her minutes restriction points toward the team ramping her back up for a full-time role.
According to Chloe Patterson of the Indy Star, the Fever and head coach Stephanie White have decided to stop playing Clark in three-minute bursts while she’s on the restriction.
Instead, the team will allow her to get into rhythm and find her groove after avoiding any flare-ups. Playing Clark in more extended parts of the rotation will also allow her to work on re-building her endurance after being limited in recent weeks.

“Certainly, you want to expand the times that she’s on the floor together without having periods of time where you’re sitting and you’re getting stiff,” White said ahead of Sunday night’s game.
“Some of that will be collaborating with her and her just letting us know how she feels, some of that will be trying to objectively look at how her movement patterns are and how she’s moving, and some of it will be strategy, saving some minutes for the fourth quarter, saving some minutes for the second half.”
This season, Clark is averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game, so making sure she is back to 100 percent before completely lifting the minutes restriction is beneficial for everyone on the team.
Indiana has been able to stay afloat without Clark in the line-up or while she’s been limited, but there’s no doubt that Clark makes everyone around her better. We’ll have to see how the new minutes restriction on Sunday night impacts the flow of the game for the Fever. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
