Brian Windhorst on Anthony Davis returning to the Lakers: “Very unlikely”

Speaking to ESPN LA, Brian Windhorst was asked specifically about a return to the Los Angeles Lakers, with host Scott Kaplan claiming he had heard speculation that Davis would be keen on a comeback. Windhorst acknowledged that Davis’ situation with the Wizards is very uncertain – but doubts the Lakers have the capital to pull off a trade for the value Washington would be seeking. He responded: “Very unlikely. You know, Anthony Davis is one of the bigger question marks in the league this year. There’s about three star-level players we’re watching regarding whether they’ll get traded: Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Domantas Sabonis. All of them are in the same boat with contract options for next season. “The Wizards basically said, ‘We want to see Anthony Davis play 20 to 30 games, see how he fits with our group, and then revisit whether we want to give him an extension.’ Obviously, if he agrees to an extension, he won’t be traded. If he doesn’t, you’ll see his name on the trade market. “But here’s the thing: the Lakers just don’t have many high-value assets for any star player.”
