The road to Omaha began this weekend, and some of the nation’s top teams didn’t survive the gauntlet that is regional play.
The bracket started with regionals, as 64 teams are separated into 16 groups of four. Half of the seeded teams advanced to super regionals, but the top two seeds — UCLA and Georgia Tech — both came up short, with the Bruins falling twice to St. Mary’s and nearly bowing out without wining a game.
For the eight seeded teams that did advance, plus Cinderella teams Little Rock, Troy, St. John’s and Cal Poly, the path to the College World Series is now much clearer as super regionals get set to start on Friday.
Super regionals are simpler than regionals, since the next round simply features eight three-game series between two teams, with the winner of each series earning a ticket to Omaha.
Here’s a look at the results from the regionals and what the matchups will be for the super regionals.
