Bengals lose one popular trade target idea before training camp

Every now and then, the Cincinnati Bengals popped up in Jordyn Brooks trade ideas

Now? Zero chance.

The Dolphins hit Brooks with a contract extension this week, ending any speculation that the new regime in Miami would go ahead and ship away the star linebacker, continuing the major roster blow-up over there.

Brooks was a fun idea, at least. He racked up 183 total tackles last season and is still just 28 years old after being a first-round pick in 2020.

It was easy to link the Bengals and Brooks. The front office in Cincinnati has been unusually aggressive this offseason. Linebacker was the worst spot on a terrible defense last year. And of all the moves the Bengals have made this offseason, they have yet to address linebacker.

Alas, the Bengals are all-in on Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter. That won’t stop them from making another free-agent signing or trade during training camp in the name of better depth, but they believe the second-year duo remains the way of the future at the needy spot.
