The Wisconsin Badgers won one of their biggest recruiting battles of the 2027 class when four-star defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion committed to the program in June.

In the process, Wisconsin beat out several interested SEC contenders, including the LSU Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners, among other schools. Zion had a loaded offer list of 29 schools that included Georgia, Florida, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, and Auburn, in addition to the schools mentioned above.

Wisconsin was slated to host Zion for an official visit during the weekend of June 6th, and they were able to secure a commitment from him before visits to Oklahoma and LSU.

However, it has been reported that Zion did end up taking an official visit to LSU during the weekend of June 19th as the Tigers push to make a flip. The Arizona native has been a big riser in the 2027 class, and his recruitment will certainly be one to watch throughout the Fall.

It’s notable that Wisconsin was able to get his commitment and beat out some major contenders, and they’ve proven throughout the 2027 class that they’ve got both the resources and relationships to nab some major commits.

Currently, Wisconsin has the No. 23 class in the cycle, holding 23 overall commits.
